Mount Meru is Tanzania's second-highest peak at 4,562 meters and offers an excellent trekking experience with stunning views of its famous neighbor, Mount Kilimanjaro. 📅 Day-by-Day Itinerary
Drive to Momella Gate (1500m) and begin trekking through lush rainforest. Watch for colobus monkeys, bushbuck, and diverse birdlife. Ascend to Mariakamba Hut (2514m) through the forest zone.
Ascend through the heath zone to Saddle Hut (3566m). The vegetation changes from forest to heath and moorland with giant heathers and groundsels. Afternoon acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3820m) for stunning views.
Start at 2am for the summit attempt. Ascend steeply to Socialist Peak (4562m) for sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the Maasai steppe. Descend to Momella Gate and transfer to Arusha.
