The seven-day Rongai Route is the extended version of the remote northern approach to Kilimanjaro, offering an extra day for acclimatization and higher summit success rates. This additional day allows you to explore more of the route's unique landscapes at a more relaxed pace, reducing the risk of altitude sickness.
The route passes through diverse ecosystems, from tropical rainforest to alpine desert, and offers stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. The northern approach receives less rainfall and fewer trekkers, providing a wilderness experience that is hard to find on other routes. With experienced guides and carefully planned acclimatization, this trek offers an excellent balance of challenge and comfort.

📅 Day-by-Day Itinerary
Drive to Nalemoru Gate (2000m) and trek through rainforest to First Cave Camp (2650m).
Ascend through moorland to Kikelewa Camp (3600m).
Ascend to Third Cave Camp (3800m) for acclimatization before Mawenzi Tarn.
Cross the saddle to Kibo Hut (4700m). Rest and hydrate before the summit attempt.
Midnight start for the summit attempt. Reach Uhuru Peak (5895m) at sunrise. Descend to Horombo Hut (3720m).
Descend to Mandara Hut (2700m) through moorland and forest.
Descend to Marangu Gate (1879m). Certificate ceremony and transfer to hotel or airport.
