The Northern Circuit is the longest route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, circling the entire mountain and offering the most comprehensive acclimatization experience. This nine-day itinerary passes through all of Kilimanjaro's ecological zones and provides the highest summit success rates of any route.
Starting on the western slopes, the route traverses the remote northern side of the mountain before joining the popular southern circuit. The extended itinerary allows for a gradual ascent, giving your body ample time to adjust to the altitude. The Northern Circuit offers stunning panoramic views, diverse landscapes, and a true wilderness experience that is unmatched by other routes.
Tour Highlights
📅 Day-by-Day Itinerary
Drive to Lemosho Gate (2100m) and trek through lush rainforest to Big Tree Camp (2750m).
Ascend through moorland to Shira Camp (3845m) on the stunning Shira Plateau.
Trek to Moir Hut (4200m) and begin the traverse across the northern side of the mountain.
Traverse across the remote northern side to Pofu Camp (4000m). Stunning views and minimal crowds.
Continue the traverse to Third Cave Camp (3800m) on the eastern side of the mountain.
Ascend to Kibo Hut (4700m) and prepare for the summit attempt.
Midnight start for the summit attempt. Reach Uhuru Peak (5895m) at sunrise. Descend to Horombo Hut (3720m).
Descend to Mandara Hut (2700m) through moorland and forest.
Descend to Marangu Gate (1879m). Certificate ceremony and transfer to hotel or airport.
